July, 1874 Sentinel:
Felton’s Celebration was said to have been exceedingly hearty. For miles around the citizens came in to unite in the festival. A platform was built in the grove across the river. Capt. Staples officiated as President of the Day, and introduced S. S. Roberts as Orator of the Day. This gentleman delivered a very eloquent oration, in the course of which he was loudly and frequently applauded. He is by all odds the best speaker in the county and never fails to move his audience. F. Adams, Esq., followed him in a few patriotic remarks appropriate to the occasion. A fine band of music enlivened the exercises, and subsequently mingled in the dance. The people of Felton acted in the most hospitable manner and allowed no one to depart on hungry stomachs.
